Books from a series "Ideologies"
Moscow , Europe Publishing House, 2009, pp 200 The book contains the first message of Russian president Dmitry Medvedev to the Federal Assembly, presented on 05 November, 2008. The text of the message is followed by a commentary on 90 ideological theses, selected on the basis of responses of Russian citizens representing professional fields and communities of this country.
Moscow, Europe Publishing House, 2008, pp 120 In 2005 Harry Gordon Frankfurt, a professor of philosophy at Yale, issue in a respectable publishing house of Princeton University his book On bullshit – an essentially outrageous work. Frankfurt generated a whole set of subjects, opponents / followers / continuators of “herniany”, a universal concept that soon became part of the academic discourse. On bullshit is simultaneously a refined provocation and an intellectual guide that reproduces the manifold ways of generating bullshit.
Moscow, The book contains expert articles by Vitaly Ivanov written in 20052007. The author claims adherence to the cohort of custodians and anti-revolutionaries, i.e. he is a down-the-line advocate of the power that be who upholds the rightist views inimical both to the leftism and the liberalism. He does not make any effort to hide his bias but on the contrary is emphasizing it all along. He inquires into the basic concepts of political science (sovereignty, democracy, nation etc), analyzes the ideological experiments of those in power and critically deconstructs the texts of the Russian oppositionists (Illarionov, Belkovsky, Rogozin, Ryzhkov) as well as Kremlins foreign critics. A series of articles is dedicated to the history and the current state of Russias party system, the relationship between the Center and the regions, the electoral campaigns of the recent years. The topicality of the book on the eve of the parliamentary elections is self-evident. The book is of interest to politicians, scientists, professors, students and all those who are interested in the contemporary political affairs.
Moscow, Europe Publishing House, 2006, pp 132 This tiny book is about struggle, a subject not readily discussed in the present-day European political correctness milieu. The author is one of the first great chess masters who know very well that the higher is a chess-players skill, the less freedom he has. The striving for precision sometimes turns into its opposite here, as Lasker is inventing concepts that do not make it easy to follow his tumultuous thinking. Nevertheless, his comments on strategy and tactics, on principles of saving forces, on the logic of struggle for survival and the principle of justice are certainly interesting. Logics have been excluded from the school curriculum, and an acquaintance with Laskers book yet again suggests that this is probably a serious omission.
Moscow, Europe Publishing House, 2006, pp 240 The book deals with the reforming of relationships between the central RF government and federation subjects conducted in 2000-2006, and actions of the federal authorities that accompanied it. The author analyzes changes in the statutory provisions that govern formation of the Federation Council, expansion of constitutional and legal liabilities, the «Kozak reform», the «governor reform», etc. The book is intended for politicians, parliamentarians, government officials, journalists, teachers, students and all those who are interested in modern political history of Russia and problems of constitutional (state) law.
Moscow, Europe Publishing House, 2006, pp 616 Rifat Shaikhutdinov helps the reader to master the terminology used in Western perceptions of real power and politics: biopower, symbolic power, soft power technologies, communication codes, intentions, consciousness orientation and other. The book is intended for those wishing to understand the nature and ethos of Russian power. Happy pursuit! The author is an unwearying and successful seeker of Power the perpetually elusive substance that is so readily cursed by peoples, which, however, cannot do without it. What is the mystery of power and what is its nature?
Introduction by G.O.Pavlovsky This is a valiant attempt at reconstructing President Putin's doctrine based on Presidents Messages of 2004 and 2005. The second presidential term is the time when every president should be securing a place in history. Putin's position is specific in the sense that he is actually trying to lay a foundation for Russia's progress in decades to come. He is making this effort in a very unfavorable situation, when, after Yeltsin's chaos, the word "stability" sounded acceptable to everyone, or almost everyone. He is making this effort because he cant help doing it. The author analyzes strong and weak aspects of Putin's doctrine, originating from the fact that the President can really influence people, rather than the course of events. The author goes on to analyze in detail the transition from anti-crisis government to development of new institutes that are intended to ensure sovereignty and democracy, fine-tune administration and raise the quality of life. The two Presidents Messages with commentaries are attached to the author's text as a natural supplement.
Introduction by Oleg Matveichev This book deals with the Russian political regime and its opponents. It has naturally evolved from a series of articles published by the author between January and August 2005. Vitaly Ivanov draws a distinction between the "competitive oligarchy" of the '90s and the "modern consensus oligarchy", or "loyalist oligarchy". The book analyses the composition of the Russian "revolution party", personal characteristics of those claiming to play the role of its leaders (such as Rogozin and Kasyanov), various revolution scenarios, etc. Special attention is given to the study of the Ukrainian "revolutionary" experience and recommendations for controlling homegrown "revolutionaries" and modernizing Russian politics as a whole. The book also includes other articles by Vitaly Ivanov, such as "This holiday is needed", dealing with the People's Unity Day (November 4).
Collection of articles compiled by N.V.Garadzha, A patriot who is free of nationalistic blindness knows precisely what and who needs to be castigated in our country, and, without falling into despair when confronted with failures, tries improving it without changing its inherent identity. Those, however, who have usurped the basically decent term «liberalism», blame our country for its being different from others, which they consider to be «orderly» and «right». These authors, many of whom are not lacking talent, are so blinded with resentment towards our country for its being «wrong» that they do not even offer their fellow citizens any constructive alternative. Read this book and see for yourself.
Introduction by A.A.Kokoshin The old essay by General De Gaulle has rather unexpectedly acquired a new relevance in the present circumstances. This text, written at the time when the author was not yet even a colonel, dealt with a subject that would become one of main themes for the future president of France: a relationship between a military professional and politician, or else, a relationship between a specific strategy and a political one. This text is about a quality that is most rare in a politician and a military man - the courage of taking a decision and the responsibility that comes with it. However, apart from its contents, the essay is likely to surprise Russian readers, who, ever since Peter the Great and Suvorov, have not been spoilt by eloquence on the part of military commanders, with the historical and literary erudition of the author, and his exceptionally refined style.
Moscow, Europe publishing house, 2005, pp 160 The book focuses on the problem of new state industrial policy elaboration. It presents options currently discussed by the five main groups: the «old industry guard», integrated business entities, local authorities of old industrial regions, the technological lobby, and representatives of sectors which have managed to adjust to the globalized market. The author describes basic historical models of industrial policy, formulates new goals of Russian industrial policy and scenarios for their implementation. Special attention is given to the regional aspect and new instruments of industrial policy.
Compiled and presented by V.A.Fadeyev The book by the outstanding 19th century German economist Friedrich List undeservedly forced out of the academic field by triumphant oversimplifications and dogmatic thinking deals with the concept of the economic sovereignty of nations. The book also features economic treatises on Lists views from his contemporaries, the Russian chemist Dmitry Mendeleyev (few people remember today that he was also a brilliant economist) and the outstanding politician Count S.Y.Vitte.
